Save Money With Family and Friends

Do you have friends that share your FI philosophy? Here are some cool hacks you can use to save money with family and friends.

Warehouse Clubs – Tag along with a friend who has a membership or split it. I go a few times a year with my sister in law and we get separate carts and pay separately (make sure to use your 5x points on groceries credit card!) BJs accepts manufacturer coupons, Sam’s Club and Costco do not. You can also split items that come in large quantities.

First-Time-Use Codes  – These are available for services like Airbnb, Uber, Lyft, Blue Apron, Door Dash. One of you joins and sends the code to the other to sign up and then you split the bonus. DoorDash driver bonus is $750-$1500 depending on area! They must complete 200 deliveries in 60 days. Heck, give them a hand doing it!

Minimum Spend on Credit Card Bonus – Ask your friends and relatives if they have any big purchases you can put on your credit card – oil delivery, new furniture, etc. and then instantly Venmo them. I take care of my elderly uncle and do all his shopping so I put it on my card 🙂 [Cody’s Note: This is great a great way to accumulate travel rewards]

Trash Pickup – If you don’t tend to fill the trash container, split the cost with a neighbor.

Group Memberships – This is ideal for services like Netflix, Hulu, etc. You don’t even need to be in the same house but only one person can watch at a time.

Cell Phone Plans – Some plans get cheaper the more people you add on!

CVS – Sometimes on your receipt you will get a coupon for $10 off a $40 spend. To hit the spend, ask your friends if there is anything you can pick up for them and they can pay you back. Along with the $10 off coupon you can ALSO use CVS ExtraBucks that come on your receipt as well as CVS coupons and manufacturer coupons! I try to ONLY hit the minimum amount I need to spend because I know I’m going to get more coupons on my receipt for my next visit 🙂

Mom’s tip: – Give the cashier only the $10 off $40 coupon first and THEN hand them the rest.

Prescriptions – always ask them to check the cheapest price – paying with insurance, paying cash, getting a 90 day supply, or using a Good RX type card. The difference can be significant!

I hope this has helped inspire you to think of ways to help each other.

Well, there you have it. Huge shout out to my mom for putting together all of these creative ways to save money with family and friends. Did she miss something? Share your own hacks in the comments below!
